HELLO, World.

Meet OREGON.

What You Need to Know

This week World Athletics Championships Oregon22 action around Hayward Field kicks into high gear. Look for signs on campus with information about activities and impacts. For an early WCH Oregon22 experience, UO employees and students are invited to visit the free Track and Field Heritage Exhibition of the Museum of the World Athletics now open at the Erb Memorial Union (EMU).
Traffic Update
Agate Street is closed to traffic from East 13th Avenue to East 18th Avenue. There is lots of activity in the area with tents and fencing going up as well as construction vehicles for the Walton Residence Hall project. Pedestrians are strongly encouraged to use the sidewalk outside of the fence line rather than walking on Agate Street. Agate Street will close to pedestrian traffic starting July 10.
A full list of road impact dates is available on the WCH Oregon22 website.
July Work and Operations
  • Operations - Some UO departments may have mostly remote operations during July, such as the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance, and Business Affairs, which includes payroll, accounts payable, travel, student billing, and cashiers. You are encouraged to schedule appointments or make prior contact before heading to an office on campus to confirm in-person availability and building access.

  • Schedules - Employees and supervisors are encouraged to work together to determine on-campus or alternative work schedules during the event.
Building Access Information
  • Public Building Access - Some public buildings, such as UO museums and EMU dining venues, will remain open. Others may have changes to hours or access. Check with individual programs or departments about access before heading to campus this summer.

  • Student Recreation Center (SRC) - The SRC will be closed to the public July 12-24. Old Town/Esslinger Hall will remain open via an alternative access and group fitness will continue operating on the summer schedule. While SRC is closed, the UO will provide access to an alternative facility for all summer fee-bearing students and summer term SRC members at no additional cost to members. Additional information about the alternative facility will be shared with summer term members by email.
Parking
  • Vehicle Access Passes (VAPs) - Information about VAPs will be sent directly to reserved space holders by Transportation Services.

  • Alternatives - Due to traffic and parking impacts UO employees and students are encouraged not to park on campus, if possible, during WCH Oregon22. The Transportation Services website provides information about transportation alternatives including PeaceHealth bikes, bike parking, and LTD bus passes. We do not recommend having someone drop you off on the restricted roads inside campus boundaries.

  • 13th Avenue Garage Access - To access the 13th Avenue Garage between July 1-13, a VAP is not required, though road closure signs will be posted along adjacent streets. Vehicles traveling to the garage must enter the area via the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and East 13th Avenue and turn left into the parking garage. To exit the garage, vehicles must turn right on East 13th Avenue upon garage exit and leave the area via Franklin Boulevard heading eastbound.

Connecting Across Cultures

When 200 delegations from around the world arrive at UO next month, each will have a student envoy to support them for the duration of their visit. Student envoys completed multi-term courses on language, cross-cultural engagement, group management, and more. Meet three of the student envoys, view videos they created as part of their coursework, and learn more about the student envoy program.
